It is often a challenge as human beings to recognize & live into the fact that we are created by God to be more then mere flesh & blood bodies walking the earth. Our bodies are so visible & demand so much attention it is easy to forget that as beings created in the image of God we are comprised of not only a physical Body but are also comprised of a Mind & a Spirit.
Though it can’t be denied that it is a challenge, the fact is, when we embrace a view of optimal wholeness it is possible to live in a Spirit of optimal health in spite of the fact that our bodies may be broken or in a state of dis-ease in some way.
Did you ever notice that rainbows appear when you least expect them? Regardless of where we might be when we see a rainbow it seems to automatically lift our spirits & to calm the waters of fear that so often surrounds us.
Most of us know that the rainbow is a refraction of light in drops of water but it sure looks like a blessing up there in the sky doesn’t it? If we are paying attention at all, it really is difficult to see a rainbow without experiencing at least some measure of peace. There is something very calming, hopeful & healing about the beautiful arc of bright color appearing unexpectedly suspended in the otherwise grey sky. With the array of colors the rainbow seems to connect heaven with all of earth.
“The Lord’s my shepherd I’ll not want.
He makes me lie in pastures green.
He leads me by the still waters,
His goodness restores my soul “
Our life is a gift given to us by God. It is always changing. As it is written in the book of Ecclesiastes; “to everything there is a season: a time to be born & a time to die, a time to weep & a time to laugh, a time to mourn & a time to dance....”. Beauty & suffering are woven together as we move through our days experiencing both joy & sorrow, health & illness, hope & despair, justice & injustice. In some seasons we live in the light & in others we live in darkness.
The Divine Light of God can never be extinguished. As it shattered the darkness of despair & hopelessness on that first Holy Night which we just journeyed through, so it continues to do so through all seasons. The Divine Light of God will always outshine the darkness of life & in that reality lies all hope. As we step into a New Year, living amidst the beauty & suffering of life, we find ourselves patiently or perhaps not so patiently, awaiting the fulfillment of God’s promise of His Light to lead the way, for we most assuredly know that God’s Light will illuminate our lives once again, right? As we await the coming of God’s Light in our own personal & global lives, we are pausing to remember & to celebrate another night that occurred 50 years ago on Christmas Eve when God’s Light shattered the darkness of fear & despair.
Our life is a gift given to us by God our Creator. It is always shifting, changing & never stagnant. As it is written in the book of Ecclesiastes; “To everything there is a season, a time to be born a time to die, a time to weep a time to laugh, a time to mourn & a time to dance, etc.”. Beauty & suffering are woven together as we move through our days, experiencing both joy & sorrow, health & illness, hope & despair. How we live into these seasons is shaped by, as well as, impacts our spirit & our soul & thus effects our total being; mind body & spirit.
