In a study of over 37,000 Americans, those who ate the most plant protein were 29% less likely to die of coronary heart disease. Why not start with a Meatless Monday routine?!
During the Lenten season some of us may have refrain from eating meat on Fridays, and may be encouraged to continue eating meat-free throughout the week. We know there are heart healthy benefits to eating more plants in our diet. Just because we are eliminating meat doesn’t mean we have sacrifice protein...or taste. Be open to trying some new flavor profiles and don’t let yourself get intimidated by new recipes. This is a great time to explore herbs and spices as well as various cooking styles.
Protein is an essential part of any balanced meal but it doesn’t have to come from a meat source. Yes, you heard me, protein is also found in some plant foods, not just meat. Don’t get me wrong, cheese pizza and spaghetti are delicious, but we don’t have to eat those things every time we eat meat-free.
Challenge yourself and try something new!
