Concerned you may have prediabetes or diabetes? Talk to your doctor! Symptoms are not always clear.
If you have any of the following diabetes symptoms, see your doctor about getting your blood sugar tested:
Symptoms can develop in just a few weeks or months and can be severe. People who have type 1 diabetes may also have nausea, vomiting, or stomach pains. Type 1 diabetes can be diagnosed at any age.
Type 2 diabetes symptoms often take several years to develop. Some people don't notice any symptoms at all. Type 2 diabetes usually starts when you're an adult, though more and more children and teens are developing it. It's important to know the risk factors for type 2 diabetes because the symptoms can be hard to spot.
Diabetes during pregnancy is called Gestational Diabetes. It typically doesn't have any symptoms. If you're pregnant, your health care provider should test you for gestational diabetes between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy. If needed, you can make healthy lifestyle changes to protect the health of you and your baby. If those changes aren’t enough to manage your blood sugar, your health care provider may prescribe medicine to help.
Amongst the three types of diabetes - Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes - symptoms are not always noticeable. Knowing your risk factors for diabetes and staying up to date with visits to your health care provider is important in diagnosing diabetes. Talk to you health care provider if you have concerns about having diabetes or prediabetes.
