August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day.  Today, we remember those we've lost to overdose while spreading the message that overdose death is preventable.  There are many beneficial resources and trainings within Erie County that compassionately offer education, training and harm reduction resources.

Free Training: Recognizing the Signs of an Opioid Overdose

The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) and the Erie County Opiate Epidemic Task Force provide free trainings on recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose and on using Narcan (naloxone) to reverse an opioid overdose.

ECDOH is also resuming limited in-person Narcan trainings. Each session is open to the first 30 registrants. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. Participants MUST wear masks. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion and a free Narcan kit with referral resources.

Virtual trainings are offered in a one-hour format as “Lunch and Learns” for individuals who would participate during a lunch break, and also in a 90-minute format.

Participants who provide a mailing address will receive a free Narcan kit after the training is complete.
