The first case of Monkeypox Detected in Erie County
Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that does not usually cause serious illness but may result in hospitalization or death. Learn more about the virus and the recent case detected in Erie County.
On July 12, 2022,
Erie County Department of Health was informed that our community has its first positive case of Orthopoxvirus/ Monkeypox. The patient does not pose a risk to the general public and is in isolation. Erie County Health Department's Office of Epidemiology is now conducting contact tracing to determine if any additional residents have been exposed to the virus.
