Lung Cancer Screening for Smokers
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States and many cases are preventable.
According to John Hopkins University Department of Epidemiology, cigarette smoking is thought to cause approximately 85-90% of all lung cancer. Smoking is thought to damage the cells lining the lungs and over time these cells act abnormally and cancer may develop. The most important thing you can do to prevent lung cancer is to quit smoking.
As of March 2021, anyone 50-80 years old who has smoked at least 1 pack per day for 20 years or more, who actively smokes, and/or has quit within the last 15 years qualifies for lung cancer screening. Screening involves a noninvasive low dose CAT scan of the chest that can be ordered by your medical provider at Inspired Health Group. Early detection and treatment of lung cancer is of utmost importance and can save your life!
Call or visit your healthcare provider to discuss smoking cessation options and let us help you determine if you qualify for lung cancer screening.
